Shelby has managed Co-op Food store refits nationwide, including the refurbishment of Balloch, the UK’s largest mainland Co-op Food store at 27,000 sq ft. Delivered in phases within a live trading environment, the project featured a new refrigeration plant, cabinets, cold rooms and a redesigned sales area with self-service checkouts.

Key challenges included keeping the programme on track despite severe weather closures, rescoping mid-project due to budget changes and maintaining quality standards on such a large, phased scheme. Shelby also oversaw planned asset investment works during the first national lockdown in 2020.

In addition, Shelby was appointed to deliver Co-op Special Projects, managing multiple store investment programmes, coordinating diverse stakeholder groups and delivering compliance rollouts across the food retail estate, including asbestos removal, fire separation, roofing and back-of-house remodelling.
