Shelby has project managed Co-op Food store refits nationwide. This included being appointed as Project Manager on the refurbishment of Balloch, the largest mainland Co-op Food store in the UK at 27,000 square feet. It was a phased project within a live store, to ensure trading disruptions were kept to a minimum. The scope of works included a new refrigeration plant, cabinets and cold-rooms and a new layout to the sales area, which included self-service checkouts.
The key challenges for Shelby included:
- Ensuring the programme was kept on time, even when severe weather forced local roads to be closed for a week.
- Having to rescope due to budgetary restraints required once the project commenced.
- Ensuring the quality of workmanship was maintained within such a large, phased project.
Shelby oversaw a programme of planned asset investment works for the Co-op during the first national lockdown in 2020.
Shelby was also appointed by the Co-op to help deliver Special Projects. Our services included programme management of multiple store investment programmes across diverse stakeholder groups and managing several compliance related roll-out programmes across food retail stores, encompassing asbestos removal, fire separation, roofing and back of house re-modelling.
