1. INTRODUCTION AND AIM
Shelby is committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This is consistent with
the UK Government’s commitment under the Climate Change Act and will play a role in the
decarbonisation of the United Kingdom as a whole.
2. RESPONSIBILITY
The Carbon Reduction Plan (CRP) applies to all our operations including management, office
services, site operations, and procurement. Director Steve Tighe has overall responsibility for
ensuring that sufficient resources are made available to enable the business to achieve our
carbon reduction objectives and targets and that the policy is implemented. Director Dawn
Taylor has the day-to-day responsibility for ensuring that the requirements of this policy are
being followed and for monitoring the effectiveness of the objectives.
3. OBJECTIVES
As with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) our emission sources are broken down into three
Scopes, as follows:
Scope 1 emissions are direct greenhouse gas emissions that occur from sources that are controlled or owned by Shelby, e.g. emissions associated with fuel combustion in boilers, furnaces and company vehicles.
Scope 2 emissions are indirect greenhouse gas emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling. They are accounted for by Shelby as they are a result of our energy use. Scope 3 emissions include all sources not within Shelby’s Scope 1 and 2 boundaries.
Scope 3 emissions represent most of Shelby’s total greenhouse gas emissions, including:
1) Business travel
2) Employee commuting
3) Waste generated in operations
4) Upstream transportation and distribution
5) Downstream transportation and distribution
4. TARGETS
To make progress in achieving Net Zero, in 2024 Shelby has adopted the following short-term and
long-term targets that aligns with our 2050 Net Zero goal:
5. MONITORING AND AUDITING
Progress against these targets will be monitored through several mediums including:
1) Annual management review of the Carbon Reduction Plan
2) Regular internal audits of our carbon footprint during bi-monthly Board Meetings
3) The monitoring of carbon reduction objectives and associated KPI’s / targets
4) Communicating with suppliers and working with them to understand and reduce the carbon
emissions associated with their operations, which will also result in cost savings across the
supply chain.
